Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei had died aged 64, BELTA reports.

It is noted that he died almost instantly. The cause of death has not been revealed.

Yesterday, Makei had a meeting with Archbishop Ante to discuss “cooperation between the Vatican and Minsk,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry reported.

Vladimir Makei was born on 5 August 1958 in the Grodno region. In 1980, he graduated from

Minsk State Pedagogical Institute and studied in the Diplomatic Academy of the Austrian Foreign Ministry in the early 1990s.

Makei worked worked as a diplomat until 2000, and later as an aide to the Belarusian president. In 2012, he was appointed Foreign Minister.
