A 45-year-old resident of the city of Polevskoy was detained on suspicion of setting fire to the front door of the local draft office, E1.RU reports citing sources in the Polevskoy police.

“Police have detained and identified the man suspected of arson,” an employee of the local department of internal affairs was quoted as saying.

According to the media, on 11 August the man threw a bottle with flammable liquid against the front door of the building. The local security guard promptly noticed and extinguished the fire, which had only spread to an area of 0.5 square metres.

At the scene, police found shards of beer and champagne bottles, as well as a rag soaked in flammable liquid.

E1.RU writes that the man was released from prison in 2020 after serving a seven-year sentence for manufacturing and selling drugs. He is now facing terrorism charges.

“He said that his motive was to disrupt the work of the authorities,” the source told E1.RU.

Baza claims that the detainee is Vladimir V, a 45-year-old resident of Polevskoy. No alcohol was found in his blood. The police are now waiting for the results of a drug test.
