The Russian armed forces have shelled Sievierodonetsk, a city in Ukraine’s Luhansk region, several times overnight. Street battles were also reported in the city. As a result of the attacks, 14 residential buildings were destroyed, regional governor Serhiy Gaidai stated on his Telegram channel.

“We have managed to push back the Russians to previously held positions. Another bridge between Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk was damaged. However, transport connection between the cities remains.

The Russians suffered significant losses and were forced to withdraw in the area of Sievierodonetsk, Toshkivka and Oskolinivka. However, they do not abandon the attempts to surround our forces from the rear and disrupt the logistical support of the Luhansk region,” he wrote.

He added that over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian forces had fended off eight attacks by the Russian army, destroying five tanks, 10 armoured equipment and 4 vehicles, as well as one Orlan-10 drone.

Other cities and settlements in the region, including Hirne, Lysychansk, Zolote, Vrubivka, Orikhove and Synetskyi came under attack as well, Gaidai reported.

He also told the 1+1 TV channel that there are no Russian forces currently in Sievierodonetsk.

Maxar Technologies published satellite images of the aftermath of heavy artillery bombardment of Popasna, a city in the Luhansk region, and Kolodyazi, a settlement in the Donetsk region, located 7 miles away from the city of Lyman.

On 27 May, Gaidai reported that five people had been killed in the shelling of Sievierodonetsk, and about 50 buildings were damaged. Local officials report daily attacks on the Luhansk region.
