Lyusya Stein of Pussy Riot charged with ‘discrediting Russian army’

Lyusya Stein, a member of Pussy Riot, was charged with “discrediting the Russian army,” says the Ostankinsky court website. She is facing up to 50,000 rubles (€850) of fine.

Stein was declared wanted by the Russian Interior Ministry a month ago; Russia’s Investigative Committee also initiated proceedings against her. Stein’s tweets about the war crimes committed by the Russian army in Ukraine was the reason behind the investigation, according to RBC.

Ilya Azar, a Novaya Gazeta reporter, was fined 60,000 rubles (€980) last week for “discrediting” the Russian armed forces and calling for unsanctioned public rallies. Azar received a fine over his Facebook post from 28 February.
