Moscow bookstore pulls books by Russian author Boris Akunin who spoke out against war in Ukraine

Molodaya Gvardiya, one of the largest bookstores in Moscow, will no longer sell books written by Russian author Boris Akunin, the Zakharov publishing house reports.

“We would like to inform our readers and partners that the Molodaya Gvardiya bookstore has decided not to wait for an order to pull books written by Boris Akunin, whom they used to love so much, and, showing a great deal of resolve, has made this truly bold decision,” the publishing house wrote.

In response, the publishing house decided to remove all of its books from the bookstore.

Earlier, Moscow’s Yermolova Theatre cancelled Text, a play based on the book written by Dmitry Glukhovsky. The Russian author was placed on the wanted list for “discrediting” the Russian army.

Both Akunin and Glukhovsky have spoken out publicly against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
