A furniture store in Belgorod has announced the end of a competition in which the participants had to sit on a sofa for the longest period of time possible, to get it for free.

“Show your talent and get a free sofa! All that you need to do is to stay seated on the sofa longer than everyone else!” was the commercial for the competition held in the mall City of Furniture.

According to the rules of the competition Sofa for endurance, anyone willing could take one of the six places on the sofa. On the second day of the competition, there were only 4 people sitting left, on the third day—three. The fight continued between two men and one teenager.

On 27 June, the underage boy dropped out of the competition, receiving third place.

In the end, the administration of the mall announced the end of the competition on 28 June and declared a tie.

“The prize sofa Tandem-3 will go to Andrey, meanwhile Stanislav has chosen a different sofa of the same price,” the organisers said, clarifying that the second winner chose a sofa that costs 86,700 rubles (€1,532).

The teenager received 15 thousand rubles (€264) and a beanbag chair. News outlet Pod’yom reports that, after the event, the Commission on Minor’s Affairs has decided to inspect the family situation of the 13-year-old boy.

Earlier, the mall administration said that three minors took part in the competition, two of them gave up during the second day. According to the rules, one could not get up from the sofa even to visit the bathroom.

The store representative Nikita Ignatiev told the newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets that the participants had “bathroom tricks”, but what that entails is a “big secret”.
