Seven civilians were killed by Russia’s shelling of Ukraine’s Donetsk region, says Pavlo Kyrylenko, the local governor.

The deceased were residents of Toretsk, Avdiivka, Kodema, and Siversk; two more people were injured. A family of three was killed in Toretsk, Kyrylenko reports. “A missile strike hit a residential area there, the shell destroyed a house and killed its inhabitants,” he says.

Valentyn Reznichenko, the Dnipro governor, has also reported shelling of Zelenodolsk. The locality of Marianske where a power transmission line was destroyed blacked out, no casualties reported.

Russia is mobilising men in the occupied towns of Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk, Serhiy Haidai, the local governor, says. “This is how it’s done. A man gets a job, and then, in a few days, receives a draft notice instead of his salary. His ‘new homeland’ is in need of his service.” Haidai says Russia needs local men for force replacement. He also noted that Russia had been trying to take control of the Bakhmut / Lysychansk highway for three months without success so far.

Sergey Shoigu, Russia’s Defence Minister, reported capturing the entire Luhansk region as he spoke to Vladimir Putin on 4 July. Russia’s president commanded to rest the soldiers involved.
