UK citizen Paul Johnson Anthony Dominic Urey died while in “DPR”’s captivity “due to illness and stress”, reports Donetsk news agency.

According to the “ombudswoman” of the self-proclaimed “Donetsk people’s republic” Darya Morozova, the Briton was captured in April while trying to break through a roadblock. The “DPR” representative claims that Urey was fighting on Ukraine’s side, although Reuters writes that the British citizen was an aid worker.

“British representatives ignored even the possibility of negotiating Urey’s return as part of a prisoner exchange. Furthermore, they did not provide the medicines he needed through the Red Cross.

Paul Urey received appropriate medical care, but given his diagnoses and stress, he died on 10 July,” Morozova said.

Urey was not among the captured Brits that had been sentence to capital punishment.

Back in June, the so-called “Supreme Court” of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” sentenced three foreign nationals to capital punishment for fighting on Ukraine’s side. The men in question are UK citizens Shaun Pinner and Aiden Aslin and Brahim Saadun from Morocco.
