Russia’s servicemen who were kept prisoners in Russia-occupied Luhansk region of Ukraine for refusing to fight in the Ukraine War have filed a complaint to Russia’s Investigative Committee, Pavel Chikov of Agora, a human rights group, reports.

The complaints say that around 140 soldiers were illegitimately imprisoned in various locations across the occupied Luhansk region. “Those were usually rooms with bars on windows and metal doors; buckets and plastic bottles were used instead of toilets, there were no meals, and the soldiers’ documents and personal items were confiscated,” reads the complaint.

Chikov says no accusations were levelled against the soldiers, and no legal documents were used. They are now asking the Investigative Committee to file criminal charges against their commanders for abuse of rank.

The mothers of the soldiers who refused to be involved in the warfare told Current Time on 20 July that their sons were imprisoned in a basement and in a former school building in the region of Luhansk.
