Azerbaijan’s Defence Ministry announces Operation Revenge in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russia confirms escalation in the region

Azerbaijan’s Defence Ministry announced that it had conducted Operation Revenge and captured several high grounds along the “Karabakh range of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains”. The country asked for complete demilitarisation of the Nagorno-Karabakh territory.

“The Republic of Azerbaijan has repeatedly stated that

the ministry said in a statement.

The Defence Ministry declared the “complete withdrawal of Armenian troops and the disarmament of illegal Armenian armed detachments” absolutely necessary.

During the operation, the “manpower of illegal Armenian detachments was annihilated and wounded” by Azerbaijan, while “military vehicles and a large amount of ammunition” were destroyed.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence reported the escalation of the situation in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“In the area of high ground Saribaba the ceasefire was disrupted by the Azerbaijani forces. The Russian peacekeeping contingent command is working together with the representatives of the Azerbaijan and Armenia sides so that measures are taken to stabilise the situation,” the Russian Defence Ministry said.

Earlier today, 3 August, President of the unrecognised Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh Arayik Harutyunyan signed an executive order on partial mobilisation, which is enforced from today.
