Ukrainian army calls on Belarusians not to take part in war against Ukraine

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have called on Belarusian citizens “not to follow the orders of their leadership on joining the war against Ukraine”. The address was published in Russian by the strategic communications directorate of Ukraine’s General Staff on Facebook.
“Many times in our history, we fought together against our common enemies. We always supported each other and lived in peace. Today, your leadership is preparing to join the Russian armed aggression against Ukraine,
it is planning to drag the Belarusian people into this filthy war, staining them with blood and death.
Under the guise of inspections, hidden mobilisation of Belarusians has begun to form a joint group with Russia on the border with Ukraine,” the video address says.
Ukraine has never threatened Belarusians, although Belarusian territory has been used since 24 February to launch attacks against Ukraine, the AFU stressed.
“We are calling on you: don’t send your sons, husbands, fathers, brothers to die for the ambitions and fear of Putin and Lukashenka of losing their power,” the address urges.
Yesterday, RFE/RL’s Belarus Service published satellite footage provided by US-based company Planet Labs which shows military equipment accumulating near the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.
