An air raid alarm sounded in the Chernihiv region of Ukraine during the visit of Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, due to which he had to go down to a bomb shelter, Der Spiegel reports.

The incident occurred in the town of Koryukivka. According to journalist Rebecca Barth, the president spent 1.5 hours in the shelter. During that time, he held a “spontaneous conversation” with local residents.

Earlier today, Steinmeier arrived in Kyiv by train; in the evening, he is set to return back to the capital. It is reported that he plans to meet with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.

As of now, there is no information whether the air raid alarm will lead to changes in his plans, Spiegel adds.
