Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the government to start working on popularisation of heroes from Russian history and folklore that fit the “traditional values” by 15 May. The corresponding document was published on the website of the Kremlin.

Putin proposes to use images of the heroes in the production of graphic, print, souvenir, and “other replicated items, as well as consumer goods”.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin was appointed as the person responsible for carrying out this order.

Furthermore, the president ordered to “develop mechanisms of popularisation of modern scientific knowledge, primarily connected to Russia’s history, among young people”.

At the beginning of November, Putin said that history has to be taught starting from kindergarten.

“Batman is famous, but our Bogatyrs aren’t. [They] have to be featured in cartoons, in movies, in children’s literature, [these images] have to be multiplied, repeated, be a foundation,” he said back then, as quoted by Russia’s state news agency TASS.
