Bloomberg: Russia’s richest lost $93.6 billion in 2022

Russia’s wealthiest people have lost $93.6 billion since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Bloomberg reports.

According to the agency’s calculations, Russian billionaires collectively lost $46.6 billion on the first day of the war. The wealthiest of Russians’ further losses over the rest of the year, due to sanctions against Russia being introduced, are estimated at $47 billion.

“Authorities in the European Union, UK and US target Russia’s “oligarchs” and their companies with sanctions that make it next-to-impossible for the business tycoons to keep control of their assets in the West.

The agency has also calculated the losses suffered by billionaires in other countries. In total, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Changpeng Zhao, and Mark Zuckerberg lost around $392 billion.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the 500 wealthiest people of the world ended up losing $1.4 trillion in 2022.

The same index indicates that Gennady Timchenko has lost $10.7 billion since the start of the year, Leonid Mikhelson — $7.87 billion, Vladimir Potanin — $2.37 billion.
