The mayor of Baikonur has signed a decree granting payouts of 260,000 rubles (€3,300) to city’s residents willing to go to the Ukraine War, the city hall’s website says.
The decree is of 7 February 2023. The local prosecutor’s office says money will be transferred from the city’s budget to a Russian bank account 20 days after the signing of each contract.
The city enclave of Baikonur in Kazakhstan is leased and administered by Russia until 2050. The 1995 agreement grants it the status of a federal Russian city for the duration of the lease.
