Court sentences Novosibirsk United Russia MP to 10 months of community service for running over child and leaving scene
A court in Russia’s Novosibirsk region has sentenced Sergey Mamontov, a local MP from the United Russia party, to 10 months of community service for running over a 6-year-old child with his car and leaving the scene of crime, TASS cites the local court department.
Mamontov was found guilty of leaving a person in mortal danger. The man’s defence requested a fine, while the prosecutor demanded community service.
The incident happened on 30 October 2022. CCTV footage shows that Mamontov ran over a child with his car, got out of the vehicle, looked at the boy, and left the location. The United Russia party promised to exclude the man from their ranks with “dishonour”.
Mamontov was arrested for 11 days on 31 October. He then faced criminal charges and was temporarily discharged from his MP duties.
The boy’s mother said that she had received a monetary compensation of 1 million rubles (€12,000) from Mamontov.
At the end of December, the case was closed due to the reconciliation of the parties, but the prosecutor’s office appealed this decision, and the case was considered again.
