Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee is investigating ten occasions of Kazakhstani citizens participating in the Ukraine War, KazTAG cites the agency.

There are no further details on the suspects or their actions. According to the country’s Criminal Code, they may be facing 5 to 9 years in prison for participating in foreign armed conflicts, KazTAG says.

Russia’s president Vladimir Putin signed a law in late September 2022 that made it easier for foreign nationals who sign contracts with the Russian military to become Russian citizens. This requires a contract valid for over a year, and a minimum of six months spent in hostilities.
