Kherson region occupation authorities report eight dead following Kakhovka HPP break

The death toll that followed the Kakhovka HPP break has risen to eight, TASS cites emergency services. This includes victims in the Russia-occupied part of the Kherson region only.
“During the rescue work, the body of a woman born in 1939 was discovered, she became the eighth victim,” the source said.
According to Russian emergency services, the total number of flooded residential buildings in 17 settlements of the Kherson region has grown to almost 22.3 thousand.
Ukraine’s Kherson governor Oleksandr Prokudin has stated that 3,624 houses in 32 settlements were flooded in the territory controlled by Ukraine, and 2,352 people were evacuated. He also stated that the water level is as high as 5.38 m on the western bank of the Dnipro river, and 5.35 m in Kherson.
Volunteers that help to those affected by the Kakhovka HPP break have created a petition to Tatyana Moskalkova, Russia’s ombudswoman, and Alexander Kurenkov, Russia’s Minister of Emergency, asking to be allowed to enter the town of Oleshky and provide help to locals, the volunteers told Novaya-Europe yesterday.
Oleshky is under Russian occupation. The town went underwater on the first day after the dam break. There were reports that only people with Russian passports were provided help.
