Drone attack on Crimea causes ammo depot explosion
Authorities evacuate people within 5 km radius, Crimean railways come to standstill
The Ukrainian armed forces have launched an attack on “infrastructure facilities” of Crimea’s Krasnogvardeysky district, regional governor Sergey Aksyonov reported.
“Ukraine’s defence force have destroyed an oil depot and Russian army warehouses in the temporarily occupied village of Oktyabrskoye,” the statement reads.
Ukraine’s strategic command channel also published a video showing the aftermath of the attack.
“Emergency Ministry personnel are at the site to mitigate any potential consequences [of the strike]. All relevant agencies are working there. I ask you to stay calm and only trust credible sources of information,” he wrote.
Local media outlets wrote that the attack targeted an oil depot in the village of Oktyabrskoye. Mash also reported this.
Aksyonov later noted that Ukraine’s drone attack had caused an explosion at an ammo depot.
Locals have posted footage showing smoke at the site, while rumble can also be heard in the videos.
Advisor to the head of Crimea’s administration Oleg Kryuchkov asked those who know the people who shot the videos to report them to the FSB. “We reiterate that publishing videos of military or critical facilities online means working for the enemy,” he wrote.
The village of Oktyabrsky houses a defunct air field.
Earlier, Crimea’s Atesh partisan movement reported that Russian troops had been deploying military vehicles to the airfield: infantry fighting vehicles, trucks, Tigr armoured infantry vehicles. Around 40-50 units were reportedly stationed there, IStories noted.
On 19 July, a fire broke out at a testing range in Crimea’s Kirovsky district. The authorities blocked off the Tavrida highway and evacuated residents of the four nearest villages.
